Mikis Theodorakis: A Celebration of Greek Poetry and Song

On Sunday April 13, the Echo Reading Series and the HCAAO, with generous support from the HHF, hosted a sold out show, Mikis Theodorakis: A Celebration of Greek Poetry and Song at Tranzac Club in Toronto. It featured music by the Chijazz band and poetry read by Christina Houtris, Yanni Tzatzanis, Rania Babasi, Stavroula Karnouskou, Christina Stamou, Stella Mastrogiannakou, as well as HCAAO members Panos Papangelakis and the remarkable Nota Klentrou, who performed despite feeling under the weather. Event coordinator Tina Poulimenou-Tzatzanis deserves our deepest appreciation for her passion and tireless work in organizing such a wonderful celebration to honour the centenary of one of the most important and internationally recognized figures in Greek culture. We will continue our collaboration in celebration of the ‘Year of Mikis’ with a documentary screening on October 30 at the Innis Town Hall at the University of Toronto (stay tuned for details).
