Academic lecture: The Possibilities of Left Government in Europe
September 24, 2025

On September 24, 2025, at the Nexus Lounge, at OISE (University of Toronto), HCAAO hosted Dr. Panagiotis Sotiris, Professor of Philosophy, University of the Aegean, with a thought-provoking lecture on “The Possibilities of Left Government in Europe”. With a wealth of experience as a journalist, editor, and academic in Athens, Dr. Sotiris delivered a deeply insightful talk that illuminated both the challenges and the transformative possibilities of left politics in Europe today. The strong turnout and lively discussion confirmed that there is a vibrant appetite for critical, engaged dialogue on the future of progressive politics.
This event would not have been possible without the commitment and enthusiasm of all involved — from our sponsors and host institutions to our volunteers and attendees. We extend our warmest thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to making this gathering such a meaningful exchange of ideas. Our heartfelt appreciation goes especially to our generous sponsors, the Socialist Project and the Department of Geography and Planning at the University of Toronto, whose support made this event possible. We are deeply grateful to our host, the Centre for Learning and the Social Economy and Work at OISE, for welcoming us into their space and providing the foundation for such a successful evening. A very special thanks also goes to Marcelo Vieta, whose efforts in helping us secure this beautiful venue were invaluable.
