"A touch of spice" Movie Screening and Discussion
September 16, 2025

On September 16, 2025 at Innis College, University of Toronto we screened the film that has sold more tickets than any other in Greece: “A Touch of Spice”, to mark the seventieth anniversary of the anti-Greek riots of September 1955 in Istanbul. Although the film refers to the 1964 expulsion of many Greeks from Istanbul the events of 1955 weighed heavily on the Greek Orthodox Romioi tis Polis, as nothing was ever the same again. Our HCAAO Vice-President Professor Phil Triadafilopoulos and Sakis Gekas led the discussion after the screening highlighting the film’s historical and political context.
