Annual General Meeting 1999

The Annual General Meeting took place on Sunday December 12, 1999, 4:00 p.m., at the University of Toronto, D. L. Pratt Building, Room LP 266, 6 King’s College Road.

Mini-Conference on “Hellenism in the 21st century”

The Hellenic-Canadian Academic Association of Ontario in cooperation with the Centre for Research in Hellenic Studies in Canada (KEEK) organised a mini-conference on ”Hellenism in the 21st century” on Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at the Polymenakeion Cultural Centre of the Greek Community of Metro-Toronto.

The speakers were:

  • Prof. Kostas Vergopoulos, Universite Paris VIII, France
  • Prof. Spyros Vryonis, Vryonis Centre for the study of Hellenism, California, U.S.
  • Dr. Christos Ioannidis, Vryonis Centre for the study of Hellenism, California, U.S.
  • Prof. Van Coufoudakis, Dean of Arts, Indiana-Purdue University, Fort Wayne, Indiana, U.S.
  • Prof. Theodoros Pelagidis, Panteion University, Athens, Greece
  • Prof. Spuros Sfetas, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and Institute for Balkan Studies
  • Prof. Panagiotis Tsimpos, University of Western Ontario, London, Canada

The lectures covered a broad area of issues concerning  Greece, the Balkans, Eastern Mediterranean, and Hellenism abroad.

Dinner-Dance 1999

The Hellenic-Canadian Academic Association of Ontario in cooperation with the Hippocrates Hellenic-Canadian Medical Association, the Hellenic-Canadian Lawyers Association and the Asclepius Dental Society organized a dinner-dance on Saturday, February 27, 1999, at the Spirale Banquet and Convention Center.

This was a fund-raising event. All proceeds went towards the establishment of the permanent Hellenic Studies Chair at York University.
